Ultimate guide to working with Windows explorer – windows Explorer is a graphical user interface (GUI) system program from the Windows operating system, allowing you to arrange files and folders.
Finding the resources available in the Windows Explorer computer is a powerful tool for working on File Folders to make file administration extremely simple and fast.  The first window of the Windows operating system is clicked on the desktop window’s taskbar, then the Window Explorer program is displayed in the list displayed. Window Explorer is displayed after clicking on the program.

To understand Windows Explorer here, first you have to understand the file and the folder.


    What is a file?

    File is the basic unit to submit any kind of information. Many types of files are used in the computer. If you create some files, then some files are for the computer.

    like- Text files, music files, picture files, system files and application files.

    How to Identifying Folders? 

    The name of all the files used in the computer is given in two parts with the help of dot (dot).
    1. Primary Name
    2. Extension Name
    You can identify a file with its extension name. As such, the primary name of the file in the picture is Wildlife, and the extension name is .wmv. The .wmv extension is used for the video file, meaning that this file is a video file.

    What is a folder?

    Folder is a part of disk, it is used to arrange files in a systematic way. The folder inside the folder is called the sub-folder. Folder is very easy to recognize – the icon of the folder is always yellow, until it changes.

    Windows Explorer is a graphical user interface (GUI) system program from the Windows operating system, allowing you to arrange files and folders.
    Opening Windows Explorer-
    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Click All Programs option.
    3. Click on the Accessories folder.
    4. Select Windows Explorer.

    Note- You can use Windows + E can also open Windows Explorer.

    The title bar is displayed at the top of the windows explorer window.  The menu bar is displayed below the title bar.  On the menu bar, the file, edit, view, go, favorites, and help menu are displayed.  The toolbar is displayed below the menu bar.  There are various types of buttons on the toolbar which we use to accomplish various operations.  The address bar is displayed below the toolbar.  In which the name of the drive is displayed whose folder and files are displayed in this window. The list of files and Folders of selected folders is displayed in the left and right part.  We can change the list of files and folders in the right and the part of the Dai and it will change according to our needs, by clicking on the View icon on the Window toolbar, this display will change.  There are four types of files and folders in this window.

    Components of Windows Explorer: –

    1. Address bar
    2. Toolbar
    3. Search Box
    4. Navigation pane
    5. Details pane
    6. Content panel
    1. Address bar – The address bar is at the top of Windows. It describes the status of your computer files and folders in Windows Explorer. To show the path of files and folders here(Symbol of arrow) is used. With the help of the address bar, you can move to another location by clicking on the location in the address bar or by selecting the new location in it.

    2. Toolbar- are as toolbar command buttons in Windows Explorer, which files and folders are used to manage many types | The command buttons in the toolbar are displayed according to your current location.
    For example – if you have selected Computer Location in Windows Explorer then it will be displayed in the following form.
    3. Search box – With the help of the search box, you can find files or folders in any location of your computer very fast. This feature is also known as Instant Search. When you start typing the name of a file or folder in the search box, the search result is shown in the content pan in the form of similar files or folders.


    4. Navigation pan- Navigation pan is left and located in Windows Explorer. With this help you can easily search and use the files and folders present in different locations in your computer. Using the Navigation Pan, you can move files and folders from one place to another, change the name of the file and folder, erase it, or get information about it.

    6. Content Pan – Content Pan Currant shows the content of the location selected.

    5. Details Pan – Details panel provides detailed information about the file or folder you choose, such as file format, date of file or folder creation, file size etc.

    Performing Basic File and Folder Operations

    Creating a new folder in hard disk with the help of Windows Explorer- 
    1. To create a new Folder using Windows Explorer
    2. Open Windows Explorer.
    3. From the navigation pane, click Computer Options.
    4. Open Local Disk D:
    5. Select the New folder command from the toolbar. (You will see an empty folder in the content pane by the name of New folder)
    6. Type the name of the new folder.
    7. Click on save button.

    Note- You can use ctrl + shift + N of keyboard shortcuts to create new folders.


    Save the file created in WordPad into the folder that you created.

    1. Open WordPad.
    2. Type the content related to the file.
    3. Click on the WordPad menu.
    4. Select Save option
    5. Select your folder’s location from the navigation pane of the Save Dialog Box.
    6. Select the folder from the content pane of the dialog box.
    7. Type the name of the file.
    8. Click on the Save button.

    Note- By using this process of saving you can secure the file of Paint or other program in your folder.

    Rename a file or folder  
    1. Right click on the file or folder name to change.
    2. Select the Rename option
    3. Type the new name of the file or folder.
    Delete file or folder
    1. Right click on the file or folder that you want to erase.
    2. Select the Delete option from the context menu.

    Note- If you delete the file or folder from the hard disk, then this file or folder is temporarily deleted. And it gets stored in Recycle Bin. Which you can recover later or delete permanently. You can open the Recycle Bin by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop.

    Receiving information about files, folders or drives
    1. Right-click on the file, folder or drive you want to get information about.
    2. Select the Properties option from the context menu.
    To Find information about files or folders
    1. Move or copy files or folders from one place to another –
    2. Right click on the file or folder that you want to move or copy.
    3. Choose Cut option for Cut and Copy for the Move.
    4. Select the place where you have to paste.
    5. Right click on the empty space in the content pane, and select Paste option.
